All ARX trainers hold university degrees in health and fitness or science-related subject areas, as well as first aid and CPR/AED certifications. In addition, all are certified strength and conditioning specialists or certified personal trainers. In other words, they know their stuff.

Jason Sylvester, CSCS
Owner & AR-FIT Trainer

Owner and head trainer Jason Sylvester, who purchased Athletic Republic Norwood in April 2016, has been with the facility since it opened in 2009. An Ithaca College graduate with a degree in clinical exercise science, Sylvester interned at Athletes' Performance in Gulf Breeze, FL before joining BlueStreak Sports Training, an Athletic Republic affiliate in Stamford, Conn. He’s worked with NFL, MLB, semi-pro basketball, tactical, DI and III athletes, as well as active adults.

Stephanie Van Ness, CSCS
Sports Performance Coach & AR-FIT Trainer

Stephanie brings a passion for fitness to her work at Athletic Republic, always looking for ways to help clients move beyond their perceived limitations and turn dreams into results. An experienced certified strength and conditioning specialist, Stephanie also is a skating instructor at Babson College. Prior to joining Athletic Republic she worked with both school-aged athletes and adults as a personal trainer and strength coach at Boston Sports Clubs and SPORT-Rx Athletic Training Systems.

As an athlete herself, she competed in gymnastics and springboard diving as a youth and today participates in a variety of sports, including ice hockey, figure skating, boxing and gymnastics. She holds a B.S. from Boston University and completed her graduate work in communications at Syracuse University. When not in the gym or at the rink she provides copywriting and editing services to corporate clients as owner of marcom firm Van Ness Communications.

Mike Duran, Athletic Republic Level 3
Sports Performance Coach & AR-FIT Trainer

Mike graduated from Bridgewater State University in May 2014 with a degree in Exercise Science. Mike interned at Athletic Republic in the summer 2014 and was hired after proving his hard work and passion to train both athletes and adults. As a four-year football player at Bridgewater he received two awards: 1st Team All-conference Offensive Lineman for Division 3, and 2nd Team Division 3 North All-Star for offensive line. 

Danielle Cassidy, Athletic Republic Level 2
Sports Performance Coach & AR-FIT Trainer

A Curry College grad of May 2014 Danielle Cassidy does it all at Athletic Republic. A health major with a concentration in athletics and a minor in biology, Danielle is a certified personal trainer and multi-sport athlete. To prepare for a career as a trainer, Danielle interned at a few different high schools during her college career, working with both high school and college strength and conditioning coaches. During breaks she worked at sports camps specializing in conditioning, form and technique. She also worked with youth aged 5-12 at Kidsports in Stoughton, helping young athletes develop proper conditioning habits and techniques to serve as the foundation of future athletic and fitness endeavors. Danielle is currently studying for her CSCS certification, widely regarded as the gold standard in the field of strength and conditioning. Upon receiving her bachelor's, she officially joined the staff in June 2014. Though she works primarily with AR's youth, middle school, high school, and college aged athletes, she can also be seen covering ARX and Mini Athlete classes, or helping with the business side of the company.

Michelle Lounsbury, NASM
Sports Performance Coach & AR-FIT Director

Michelle holds a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from University of Maine Orono as well as a Master of Education with a concentration in Strength and Conditioning from Springfield College. Michelle is a certified Performance Enhancement Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine as well. After graduating from Springfield College, she spent several years working under Mike Boyle training professional athletes from the NHL, AHL, NFL and NLL as well as College, High School and Youth athletes.  After receiving vast amount of knowledge through Boyle, she began working at the Boston Athletic Club. While there, she Managed the Group Exercise department, continued to train athletes and excelled as a Personal Trainer for over 5 years. Following a relocation back to Maine with her husband, she had the fortunate task of becoming Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at Fryeburg Academy, a private High School in Maine. Michelle is thrilled to be back directing the AR-Fit adult training group and pushing every member to reach their full potential.  Michelle resides in Sharon with her husband Jon and two daughters Olivia and Iyla.
